A St. Petersburg theatre festival named for Yuri Butusov — three productions by his students across six evenings at Skorokhod.
BuFest is a St. Petersburg theatre festival named for Yuri Butusov, a director at the Lensoviet and Vakhtangov theatres. It's organised by the theatre company Komnata Sveta and held at Skorokhod (107 Moskovsky Avenue, building 5).
The main programme is three productions staged by Butusov's former students: “Viy. Conjectures” (dir. Alexander Tserenya), “The Cherry Orchard” (dir. Egor Kovalyov) and “The Seagull” (dir. Ilya Zaitsev). Each runs twice, on consecutive nights, without an interval, starting at 20:00.
Alongside the performances runs BuFet, a programme of one-off events: Yulia Smelkina's photographs of Butusov in rehearsal, a walk through “Butusov's Petersburg” with Darya Pavlenko, a conversation with Van Shen, and a screening of Sofia Nikiforova's documentary “Chronicles of My Love.”
I organise the festival as part of the Komnata Sveta team, where I've run social media since January 2022.
